Who owns Carter Cemetery?
Carter Cemetery is a non-profit cemetery trust. We operate under the direction of a board of trustees.
When I buy a grave, do I receive a deed?
You are actually purchasing the right to designate who may be interred in the space, rather than purchasing the grave itself, which remains the property and responsibility of the cemetery. You also have a right to place a monument within the cemetery guidelines.
How can I find information for a relative that I know is buried at Carter Cemetery?
You may email or write to us with your specific questions giving us as much information as you may have on the deceased . We will gladly reply with any information we have on record.
What does an "Independent Non-Profit" cemetery mean to me?
Independent means we are not part of any other organization and that all decisions are made right here by us and for us. Non-profit means that we have no shareholders to share revenues with, and all monies in excess of expenses stay in the cemetery for maintenance and improvement.
Are there any regulations to be followed for burial at Carter Cemetery and where can I get a copy?
Yes. The trustees adopted regulations that set forth cost of plots, monument sizes and placement, and general guidelines which will help in the safety and ease of maintaining the grounds. You may contact us by email or letter for a copy of these regulations.
Why is having a place to visit so important?
Because it provides a focal point for memorializing the deceased and a place for survivors to return over time to remember and honor their loved ones. To remember, and be remembered , are natural human needs. It can also serve an important emotional function for survivors by helping bring closure and allowing the healing process to begin. At Carter Cemetery we are providing a permanent resting place for the deceased, which is a dignified treatment for a loved one's mortal remains and fulfills the natural human desire for memorialization.
I understand Carter Cemetery Trust publishes a newsletter annually. How do I get on the mailing list?
Just contact us through the web site with your mailing address and for any friends and family that may be interested, and we will certainly see that you are added.
